I am currently building a pole barn and need to know if anybody has suggestions on lifting up the roof trusses? The pole barn has 12' walls and the trusses add another 8' so it must be able to reach about 22'. Since they are 46' long, they probably weigh around 100#. I tried 2 - 2x4x18 nailed together and strapped to my boom pole but this seemed too flexible and it eventually broke with about 100# of test weight. I would like to avoid renting a telehandler to set 9 trusses. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I'm not sure you need the full 22 feet. Here is how I have helped do it. Use the loader with an extension to get the truss up to its support. At this point the trusses are upside down. Then used the extension on the loader to help roate the truss to upright direction. This method eliminates the need to have the extension on the loader to be long enough to hold the full weight of the truss upright in position. Hope this helps. ....

The best way to set this size truss is with a crane. I have set many trusses over the years the way Halsey recomends by hand, but they were not 42 feet wide. Trusses are not very strong when laying flat and break very easly. Be sure to use alot of bacing. Chris ....
